Problems To Answer
S.S.S. (Short Sharp Shock)
Crossover Thrash

For those who don’t know SSS (Short Sharp Shock) they are a four piece Punk/Thrash crossover band from Liverpool. Their latest release: ‘Problems to answer’.

‘Problems to answer’ is a fully-packed, thrash attack, 25 track album. I personally found this album to be very reminiscent of S.O.D’s ‘Speak English or Die’ with a mix of tracks ranging from five seconds to two minutes. Not once do SSS let up; the whole album is aggressive and intense from start to finish.

For their third album the quartet are at their best;with drumming from Dave Ferguson, bass lines and riffs from Mark Magill and Pete Broom on guitar not to mention Foxy with his unique vocals  which finish off each track perfectly. These four certainly know how to take it back to the days where punk was still hostile and slightly underground.

The highlights of ‘Problems to Answer’ for me include ‘Eat Me Drink Me Burn Me’ with its taste of early 80’s punk, ‘Laughing Leads to crying’ which vaguely reminds me of Dead Kennedys, and the addictive and riff-filled ‘Future Primitive’ gives ‘Problems to Answer’ something for everyone.

The tracks ‘The Kill Floor‘, ‘Here Comes the Neighbourhood’, and ‘roar’ feature guest vocals from Napalm Death’s vocalist Barney Greenway and, as always, whether Barney is guest vocals or main man he is on top form and certainly seems at home doing all-out thrash/punk.

“Problems to the Answer” is not pushing any boundaries with its music, but it is all out, balls-to-the-wall Punk With influences of bands like Municipal Waste and Total Fucking Destruction it is clear where SSS are coming from and who their musical influences are but they certainly make it their own.
